Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Channel 10 on Wednesday that Hezbollah may already have received chemical weapons from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
However, Olmert said Israeli intervention in Syria should not be a priority. He said Israel should only act if it receives specific intelligence and that any Israeli military strike should be surgical.
Regarding the peace process with the Palestinians, Olmert called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to lead an effort to renew negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.
“[Netanyahu] has a historic opportunity,” Olmert said.
On his political future, Olmert said, without going into further detail, that he remains a public figure and Israelis will continue to hear from him.
