It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of R’ Moshe Binik z”l, a renowned baal chesed and warmhearted Yid who devoted his life to helping others. He was eighty years old.

R’ Moshe was known as the founder and proprietor of KRM Supermarket in Boro Park and Moisha’s Supermarket on Avenue M in Flatbush, but his main “business” was the business of Klal Yisroel, helping mosdos haTorah v’chesed, assisting yechidim, and utilizing his resources to better Klal Yisroel.

R’ Moshe fled from kavod and accolades all his life. He never wanted to be written about or given honor for his work. He wanted to do his chesed quietly. But his kindness couldn’t be hidden, because he touched so many souls in such special ways.

In an unassuming yet continuous manner, he dedicated himself to the needs of the klal for decades, working in askanus before anyone spoke of the word. His chassadim included, of course, opening discount supermarkets for kollel families and large mishpachos, as well as opening his home for the homeless, for cholim, for teens-at-risk and others, while also setting up locations where at-risk youth could find comfort and guidance.

R’ Moshe didn’t stop there. He founded mekomos haTorah as needed, always doing so quietly and without his name attached to those endeavors, while also somehow finding the time to serve on Hatzolah.

His home was as simple as one could image, with well-used furniture and a couch that R’ Moshe and his rebbetzin kept from the time they got married.

With R’ Moshe’s passing, Klal Yisroel has lost one of its most humble, gentle and kind baalei chesed and machzikei Torah. His petirah leaves a gaping void.

R’ Moshe’s levayah will take place tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 3803 14th Avenue in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Boruch dayan emes.
Aside from the other chasodim he did, the low prices in his stores help my family and who knows how many others when it’s difficult to make ends meet.

  2. Mr. Binik was a one man chesed organization. The original askan before it was even a thing.
We would all sit around, see or here something and say oh well. Only to find out that the next morning he got in touch with a guy or called in old favors and was on it. And when you gave him credit him he just said “what, me?”
    Pure class.
Original R.V. Hatzolah member. Are there any left?
    What a loss!

  3. Unbelievable individual. May he be a malitz yosher for his entire family and may Sholom reign speedily in our time!

  4. I was fortunate to grow up as his young neighbor in Remsen Village. Years later, I briefly worked for him on his “Our Place” project that he spearheaded. I know that this is just a “tipah shebiyam” in what he accomplished. An Ish Chesed and a huge loss!

  5. Moish was one of a kind when it came to Chesed. Having known him from our days in Remsen Village. Always there, whether for Bikur Cholim , Hazola, assisting new families with home finding Special concern for his neighbors and local Mosdos.
He will be missed but his accomplishments will endure.
