For over half a century, Rabbi Mayer Zelig Mann zt”l served as Shliach Tzibbur at Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland, both behind his desk and in front of the Amud. In his capacity as the Yeshiva’s Executive Director, he dedicated his multi-faceted talents to the Yeshiva’s development. He used his ingenuity to create new revenue streams for the Yeshiva. Projects such as the Chanukah Candles mass mailings and the Telshe Yeshiva Pushkas continue, even after his petirah, to generate the Kemach which is a prerequisite for the Torah. The grandeur of the Telshe Beis Medrash is testimony to Rabbi Mann’s architectural genius.

As a Shliach Tzibbur, it was his melodious voice which conveyed to the Tzibbur the joy of the Yamim Tovim, and the awe of the Yamim Noraim. Rabbi Mayer Zelig firmly believed that “It is the niggun that must fit the words, and not vice versa”. Thus, not only were the tunes that he composed and/or sung incredibly moving and inspirational, but, they were instructive as well, for they captured the meaning of the words which they accompanied.

Rabbi Mann and ybl”c his Rebbetzin Esther raised generations of descendants who continue to follow in the paths of Torah, Chessed, and Shirah which he established. Indeed, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren number among the Talmidei HaMechinah V’HaYeshiva and the Chavrei HaKollel.
