Rav Elyashiv Undergoes Battery of Tests at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital

rav-yosef-shalom-elyashivThe posek hador, Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, underwent a battery of comprehensive tests today at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Yerushalayim under the direction of his personal doctors, as Rav Elyashiv has felt general weakness over the past few weeks, the cause and nature of which have not yet been positively identified.

Rav Elyashiv experienced progressive weakness several months ago, similar to the symptoms he has suffered recently. As reported here on Matzav.com, he fainted for a few moments about two weeks ago.

Just as prior to his recent cataract surgery, Rav Elyashiv was taken to the hospital in the special vehicle of Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Mir-Yerushalayim, in order to make the drive from Rav Elyashiv’s Meah Shearim home more comfortable for the centenarian gadol.

Gedolim in Eretz Yisroel issued a letter last week calling on Yidden to daven for the health of Rav Elyashiv. The letter was signed by Maranan Rav Aharon Leib Steinman, Rav Shmuel Wosner, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg and Rav Shmuel Auerbach.

Today is the third of three days designated this week as days of tefillah to grant a refuah for the Rabbon Shel Yisroel.

Tefillah gatherings are being held in Yerushalayim, at the Kosel, and elsewhere around the county. Bnei Torah all over the world are learning Torah as a zechus for Rav Elyashiv.

Back in June, Rav Elyashiv underwent successful surgery to repair a coronary artery near his heart.

All are asked to continue davening for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.

  1. I think that it requires contemplation in order to to adequately appreciate the benefit we get from any tzadik`s existence, and 1000-fold, Maran – ad meah v`esrim shanah – whose p`sokim and guidance we live by each day. A tzadik is meygin (shields) upon the dor (as it says in Parshas Sh`lach: “Hayesh Boh Eitz?” which refers to the tzadik who protects his dor). How much do we need this, especially at this point in time! If only we appreciated each day, each moment.
