Taliban political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will attend peace talks this week in Doha between the United States and the Taliban, the government of Qatar said Sunday, according to Reuters.
Reuters reported that the talks are scheduled to begin on Monday and will focus on a ceasefire to the war in Afghanistan. U.S. officials have been eager to negotiate with Baradar, according to Reuters.
Baradar is a co-founder of the Taliban and was released from a Pakistani jail last year.
