Rep. Steve King is challenging Sen. Chuck Schumer to a duel – but with microphones.
In a lengthy speech on the House floor Thursday, the well-known immigration hard-liner fought back at all of the barbs Schumer has thrown at him recently that painted him as the main obstacle in the House on immigration reform.
Schumer has accused King of being xenophobic and proclaimed that House GOP leaders who have not brought immigration bills to the floor, were taking cues from the fiery Iowa Republican, who has made inflammatory comments about immigrants in the past.
King apparently took issue with those assertions.
“If we’re going to have some kind of rhetoric bouncing back between the House and Senate, let’s do it face to face, let’s do it eye to eye,” King said Thursday. “Let’s have that duel, not like Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, but I would be the one standing on the high ground.”
“Let’s do it like many men today – not duel with 50 paces and pistols, but let’s do it with microphones within arms’ reach,” the Iowa Republican continued. “Maybe we can get to the bottom of it and see who would have the xenophobia.”
