Authorities in Iowa said they have detained Scott Michael Greene, 46, the suspect in the ambush-style shooting deaths of two police officers early Wednesday morning. Greene was reportedly caught in Dallas County, west of Urbandale. He was reported to be considered to be armed and dangerous, driving a blue 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck. An Urbandale officer was found dead in his squad car at around 1 a.m. after other police responded to reports of gunfire, and a Des Moines officer was fatally shot a few miles away 30 minutes later. It was the first time a Des Moines police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty since 1977. Officers in the area were working in pairs for safety reasons. Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek called the shootings a “cowardly act.” The names of the victims have not yet been released. In 2014, Greene pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree harassment. In the same year, he also pleaded guilty to interference with official acts.
