During his rousing drashah last night at the keynote session of the 92nd National Convention of Agudas Yisroel of America at the Woodcliffe Hilton in Woodcliffe, NJ, the Novominsker Rebbe, Rav Yaakov Perlow, Rosh Agudas Yisroel, discussed those who, with great audacity and chutzpah, utilize online forums to question and mock gedolei Torah.
“There are many self-appointed meivinim amongst us unfortunately ready to sound off on anything and everything. These meivinim have no compunctions about opinionating about whatever goes on in the Jewish world and the Torah world especially. And very often, as a result of that curse of technology called the blogs, they engage in cynicism and zilzul talmidei chachomim and downright chutzpah.”
The Rebbe added that “an ehrliche Yid should behave with humility and understatedness, and speak with kavod haTorah, and respect talmidei chachomim, and not appropriate himself as a commentator and a maven on everything that goes on.
“We would like to see in our children this kind of respect,” the Rebbe continued, “…this kind of kavod habriyos and kavod haTorah. This is what they older generation would like to see.
“How do you expect the younger generation to think when they hear sometimes their parents making derogatory remarks…”

“A number of misguided individual in Eretz Yisroel insist on going up to the Har Habayis, “said the Rebbe, “in clear violation of the p’sak of the gedolei hador that it is assur for a Yid to be on the Har Habayis.
“Without discussing the halachic imperatives for this p’sak, the presence of Jews there incites the Arabs and induces them to a wild sinah that can lead directly to shefichas domim. We ask our fellow Jews: Stay off the Har Habayis! Dreidt zach nisht mit zey! Daven in your shulsyou’re your yeshivos and at the Kosel Hamaarovi. Do not generate the redifah on Yidden.
“Have rachmanus on your own lives and the lives of others. This is not the way to become close to the Shechinah. There are other ways, better ways. May Hakadosh Boruch Hu enlighten your minds to seichel hayoshor and seichel haTorah.”

As usual, the Rebbe has his finger right on the pulse of the situation! All the issues he spoke about last night were what ALL factions of klal yisrael ought to be listening to. If only we would all follow daas torah a lot would be better for us. Let us not forget that in the times of Mordechai and Esther the were also many so-called “kluger yidden” who thought they knew better., and look how catastrophic the results were!
