vizhnitzer-rebbe-bnei-brak-3[Levaya info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the passing of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak, Rav Moshe Yehoshua Hager zt”l. The Rebbe, who was 95, had suffered from labored breathing and an infection, and Yidden around the globe had been fervently davening for his recovery. The Rebbe’s petirah shortly after midnight is a painful blow to the greater Chassidic and Torah world.

The Rebbe was the nosi of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah in Eretz Yisroel and headed one of the most illustrious Chassidic families in the world. In addition to leading a large chassidus of his own, his children are some of most prominent admorim in the world.

The Rebbe had two sons and four daughters. His oldest son is Rav Yisroel, who has been leading the Vizhnitzer kehillahin recent years when his father has been unwell. Rav Menachem Mendel, the Rebbe’s second son, is named after the founding Vizhnitzer Rebbe, author of Tzemach Tzaddik. He serves as av bais din of the Vizhnitzer kehillah in Bnei Brak.

The Rebbe’s sons-in-law are the Skverer Rebbe, Rav Dovid Twersky, of Shikun Skver; the Belzer Rebbe, Rav Yissochor Dov Rokeach, of Yerushalayim; Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar of Kiryas Yoel; and Rav Menachem Ernster, rosh yeshiva of the Vizhnitzer Yeshiva in Bnei Brak. The Rebbe’s brother, Rav Mordechai Hager, is the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Monsey.

Yehi zichro boruch.

Update, 8:32 a.m. IL: The levaya will be held in Bnei Brak today, Wednesday, at 1  p.m., leaving from main Vizhnitzer Bais Medrash Ahavas Yisroel. Israeli police in cooperation with the municipality of Bnei Brak and Magen David Adom will close parts of the city during the levaya, which will be followed by kevurah at the Zichron Meir Bais Hachaim.

  1. he was rov in europe even as a bochur
he later became vizhnitzer roshyeshiva and then rebbe when his father was niftar 40 years ago

  2. What a Dor Yasom we are! I am not a Viznitzer yet even I have a simple understanding of how super illustrious the man was! Noteworthy is the time of his passing – CHATZOS and tomorrow is the Rebbe Reb Meilich’s yortzeit!
He was warm and especially cheerful! every picture of him is with clear radiance of warmth and Ahavas HaShem and Ahavas yiroel! We are truly a dor yasom! When he gets up there he should – I’M CERTAIN HE WILL – break the closed shaarei Shomayim and get us the yeshuah we so desperately need! He has brought so much simch and Yeshuah during his soon-to-have-been 96 years, he certainly will break the shaarei Shomayim and bring yeshuos many-fold up there!

  3. Baruch Dayan Haemes!
He was a true gadol and he always made a true impression on everyone!Klal Yisroel please daven for moshiach!

  4. BDE.
    Chevra,
    life is short.
we just got to CHOP AREIN. Especially bain odom lachaveiroi.
We don’t have to be a rebbe or a rosh hayeshiva to make it big in the world to come. on the contrary. the more poshuter yid, the greater we can be up there.
Reb moishala ztl should be a mailitz yoisher for the whole klal yisroel.
