Torah Umesorah Dinner to Honor Presidium at Dinner Tonight

tu-honorees-small1In the 65 years since Torah Umesorah’s founding, multiple generations have been educated in the numerous Torah Umesorah yeshivos and day schools throughout North America.  Jews today seem often to take for granted the fact that quality Torah education is readily available in virtually every Jewish community on the continent.  This was not always so. Sixty-five years ago, with much struggle and facing many challenges, Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz zt”l, established Torah Umesorah.  Since then, North American Jewry has been benefiting from the fruits of Torah Umesorah’s labors.

Torah Umesorah has always been devoted to the survival of Yiddishkeit in America, particularly through Jewish education, but with many supplemental services as well. Torah Umesorah offers the necessary tools and programs to promote Torah commitment and to empower mechanchim and mosdos hachinuch in their sacred work. These include, among others, teacher and principal training, curriculum development, publications, Project SEED, school visitations, Partners in Torah, community development, school personnel placement, Zechor Yemos Olam Holocaust Education Training, CounterForce, and Hemshech.

This year, at its 65th Anniversary Dinner,  which will be held this evening at The Rotunda in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, Torah Umesorah will honor the four esteemed members of its Presidium – Rabbi Avrohom Fruchthandler, Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz, Rabbi Yaakov Rajchenbach and Rabbi Gedaliah Weinberger – for their relentless and tireless devotion to Torah Umesorah.

Rabbi Avrohom Fruchthandler, who is the very foundation of Yeshivah Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin, personifies dedication and self-sacrifice for all causes that promote kevod Shomayim. Those who work with Reb Avrohom as officers of Torah Umesorah have learned to admire and respect – indeed, stand in awe – of his extraordinary talents and devotion.

Rabbi Pinchos Lipschutz was the Director of Development and was a participant in several significant advances in Torah Umesorah. Over twenty years ago, when he was asked by gedolei Yisroel to establish a Torah weekly for North America, he devoted himself to that goal. Torah Umesorah has had a special relationship with his successful and famed Yated Ne’eman throughout the years.

Rabbi Yaakov Rajchenbach has for decades been among the world’s foremost figures championing the cause of chinuch. A famed communal leader in Chicago, his stature is globally recognized as a leader of organizations committed to furthering Torah ideals. His passionate involvement on numerous boards has played a key role in reinvigorating Torah throughout the U.S. and Israel.

Rabbi Gedaliah Weinberger is the proverbial “rosh verishon lechol dovor shebikedusha,” a pioneer and a prime shaker in many sacred undertakings. Apart from his pivotal role at Torah Umesorah, he serves Klal Yisroel in assorted contexts, including such yeshivos as Bais Medrash Govoah of Lakewood, and organizations including Agudas Yisroel of America, the Daf Yomi Commission and others.
