Tragedy in Boro Park: Monsey Infant Drowns in Toilet On Rosh Hashanah

candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mendy Altman, a 14-month-old baby from the Monsey, NY, community.

Mendy was in Boro Park, where he spent Rosh Hashanah with his mother and six siblings at Mrs. Altman’s sister’s home. On the second night of Yom Tov, the infant fell into a toilet headfirst and was found at about 11 p.m. by his 13-year-old sister.

Hatzolah was summoned immediately and transported the child to Maimonides Medical Center, which is located not far from the home where the accident occurred on Eleventh Avenue.

The family has been thrown into mourning following the terrible tragedy, and Yidden around the world learning of the petirah are shocked and saddened.

Mendy’s father spent Rosh Hashanah in Uman, Ukraine, and was not yet notified of the terrible tragedy.

Levaya details will be provided once they are finalized.
