Tragic Petirah of Mordechai (Motty) Borger z”l

candle-small6It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mordechai (Motty) Borger z”l, a 24-year-old newly married yungerman who passed away after falling off a seventh-floor balcony at the Avenue Plaza Hotel on 13th Avenue at 47th Street in Brooklyn, NY.

Motty, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Shmuel Borger of Boro Park, just got married this past Tuesday night at Ateres Avrohom Hall in Williamsburg to Mali Gutman, daughter of R’ Chaim and Mrs. Gutman of Monsey, NY. The tragic accident took place yesterday morning, on the second day of sheva brachos. Following the fall, Motty was taken to Lutheran Medical Center in extremely serious condition as Yidden davened for Mordechai ben Elka.

A name, Refoel, was added as tefillos were said, but Motty’s neshama returned to its Creator.

The levaya will be held this morning, shortly after 11 a.m., at Shomrei Hachomos chapels, located at 43rd Street and Ft. Hamilton Parkway in Boro Park.

R’ Shmuel, father of the niftar, is well known for his chesed and involvement in tzorchei tzibbur. He founded the Amudei Shesh Choir years ago and is a popular videographer.

May the family have a nechama and may we know of no further tzaar.

Umacha Hashem dimah mei’al kol ponim.

  4. Two wonderful families. Two wonderful, good, young children. I could not close an eye last night. All of klall yisroel is with you in this tzorah. Mir feelin mit eich. May Hakodosh Boruch Hu be menachem you, and give you all the koach to withstand this difficult nisayon. May He send the yeshua quickly.

  5. although i dont know who this yungerman is im crying 4 him and his family! may his neshama have an aliya! and much nechana to his family

  6. Motty was a special person. I danced with him at his Chasunah and had the time of my life, thats how much fun he was to be around! Heartbreaking!

  7. I’ve been crying since I heard about this. I know Motty and his family since he was a little boy.

May hashem give them the strength they need now.

  8. Oy! Oy! Oy!
I don’t him personally, but I do know the Borgers, I cannot function properly.
    The pain is indescribable.

  9. No one can begin to understand the hurt these two great families are feeling now. Klal Yisroel cries with you and feels your pain. HKBH is the Dayan H’emes. HE wanted Motti near HIM.

  10. Is his father a videographer with Three Star? Does anyone know where they are sitting shiva? If this is the correct Shmuel, he did our wedding and was such a mensch! May the families have nechama!!

  11. I am sitting on the train as I’m reading this, I heard about it earlier that he passed away so I came on here to make sure it was a mistake but sadly it isn’t.
I grew up with him in cheder and just played basketball with him 2 weeks ago.

I’m with tears in my eyes and shuddered of the thought of how a person cannot know if he will live the next moment. The most amazing happiest kid of the block always making everyone smile and laugh.

Like he can turn a sad house into simcha with one simple joke.

I’m so broken right now, I bli neder who never opened a siddur in the last 5 years nor uttered a word of torah will start davening shachrit with tefillin.

I will miss u mutti! Remember us, we need someone like you in shmayim to help bring mashiach and stand up for us. Even though it would be better having you on this world encouraging us to stay strong but clearly hashem saw your value and took you away from us.

  12. this is one of the saddest stories i have heard from in a very long time….
may Hashem grant his poor wife and family lots of nachama.
we MUST take away from this tragedy something to change our lives. how can we be so blind and not see the message that Hashem is sending us? a 24 year old who got married 2 days earlier? its an open sign from Hashem that we MUST DO TESHUVA. not next year. not soon. not tomorrow. but right now. Hashem is begging us to get closer to him. we must stop being ritualistic by cruising through life worrying only of our guf and not our neshama, and start being spiritualistic- by doing torah, tefilla, and chesed, and actually mean it!!!
May Hashem watch over all of us!!!!

  13. Hashem Yeracheim why hashem why there was just a family about to be built and you broke it why Hakaodosh baruch hu why can’y You see we, your bnai yisrael suffered enough please tell us what we need to do please

  14. How sad . As if the petira of the young man was horrible enough, perishing during what is the most joyous week of one’s life under curious circumstances creates speculation etc
Only serves to compuond the horro the families sorrow.
    Baruch Dayan HaEmmet.

  15. I spent one shabbos of my life with Mottythis past summer. I am a middle aged person with many grandchildren (kayn yirbu). Never have I met a fellow who exuded happiness, contentment, joy, and goodness more than Motty. Joy fairly oozed out of his pores!. He had the unique ability to put a smile on everyone’s face with a good word or joke. He got engaged on the motzei shabbos after we spent Shabbos together. His excitement was palpable as he talked almost of nothing else. He spoke of going to school and his hopes for the future. No way can anyone who knew Motty agree that there might have been the slightest emotional problem. Motty surely suffered a freak accident orchestrated by the One Above for reasons understood only by HIM. From some previous gilgul Motty and Mali had to be married for exactly 2 days. Motty had to wear a tallis for one day, for reasons we will never understand. Our job is to accept and mourn. Hashem nosan, Hashem Lokach, Yehi Shem Hashem Mevorach. Motty in your short life you positively impacted so many, may this be a zechus for you in a world where only emes counts.

  16. A wonderful boy. All of Klal Yisroel is heart broken. We should be Zoche to see Yakitzu Viraneinu Shochney Ofor, and Motty among them

  17. motty was my counsler about 3 years ago,he was a counsler full of joy, funny, geshmack .He had every thing going for him money,a wife, friends. tears co me to my eyes

  18. He fell from the fifth floor, which is seven stories high. The lobby is two stories high.

I knew Motty and am shocked.. He was a bubbly, happy, outgoing person.

  19. This is a tragedy of significant proportion, I don’t recall in so many many years something like this happening and my heart goes out to the families.

  20. I knew motty personally and i know the family very well. i have not stopped crying all day on Thursday, Friday and shabbos.
its not just the sad circumstances but it’s motty. we just can’t believe this.
motty was one big ball of life.
there is hardly anyone who crossed his path and was not impacted by him. that’s how great a person he was.

oy, motty, we will miss you.

  21. Hi I’m the nephuw of Molly and my rebbi told me that wen u give tzedeka in honor of motty he will shoot up and it will be good I’m 12 so If not so clear well I’m trying to say wen u giver tzedaka think abought motty say tehillem for him and a tradegy like this shud neve happen again …..amen
