President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel to Pittsburgh on Tuesday, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said, the Washington Post reports.

Sanders said that the Trumps would “express the support of the American people and grieve with the Pittsburgh community” during their trip.

They also will make the trip on the day of the first funerals, with burials scheduled to continue through Friday, Mayor William Peduto told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Peduto said he wants the focus to be on families of victims. Law enforcement will be stretched by the funerals and their processions, continuing security at the site of the Saturday shooting and at other Jewish institutions, he said.

“We did try to get the message out to the White House that our priority tomorrow is the first funeral,” Peduto said Monday night. “I do believe that it would be best to put the attention on the families this week, and if he (Trump) were to visit, choose a different time to be able to do it,” the mayor said. “Our focus as a city will be on the families and the outreach that they’ll need this week and the support that they’ll need to get through it.”

  1. It’s amazing that the most singularly hated President since Nixon will risk going to Pittsburgh and the vanguards of Congress are either too busy or otherwise engaged. Chucky, Nancy, Rick, and Mitch – where have you gone Joe Dimaggio, our nation cries out for you, boo hoo hoo.
