Transportation Security Administration screeners found a record number of firearms in carry-on luggage in 2015.

Of the 2,653 guns discovered, the agency says 83 percent were loaded.

The total number was up 20 percent from 2014.

In all, guns were discovered in carry-ons at a total of 236 airports; of those, the most weapons were found at Dallas/Fort Worth International, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson, and Houston’s George H.W. Bush

Intercontinental. The TSA said the uptick could be the result of both better search techniques and an increase in the number of travelers. Read more at The Los Angeles Times.

  1. OK but who are those 2600+ people? Are they fools who forgot a gun in their backpack (as opposed to dismounting it and shipping it as checked luggage, which is perfectly legal, or leaving it home) or are they terrorists, psychos, criminals of whatever sort? I totally agree that weapons should not be carried into passengers’ cabin, even more so when loaded, and that everyone at check-in should be reminded that it is forbidden, and if they happen to have one, it must be packed in a box and stowed as cargo. But suggesting that all those weapons were a danger, in a country where plenty of people are carrying concealed weapons legally, and notice the airports with highest numbers are Dallas – Atlanta – Houston, is quite absurd.
