On the heels of Sunday’s presidential elections, the Ukrainian government has launched an airstrike against separatists militants who seized an airport in Donetsk overnight.
A spokesman for the Ukrainian joint forces security operations in the region said on Monday that rebels had passed the 1 p.m. local time deadline to lay down their arms.
In response, Ukraine fired warning shots around Sergei Prokofiev International Airport, which escalated into one of the fiercest clashes between the two sides. Some are reading Ukraine’s airstrike as new president-elect Petro Poroshenko’s effort to display his aggressiveness against separatists. Read more at The Telegraph.
