US State Department Warns Tourists Against ‘Immodest Attire’ in Yerushalayim

meah-shearim1The US State Department  has published a travel recommendation for tourists: Do not walk around dressed immodestly in charedi neighborhoods for fear that extremists would assault you in the street.

The travel recommendations which were updated by the US State Department two weeks ago calls on American tourists to dress appropriately when visiting religious sites in the Old City and in charedi neighborhoods and to avoid driving through those neighborhoods on Shabbos.

“Most roads into ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods are blocked off on Friday nights, Saturdays, and Jewish holidays. Assaults on secular visitors, either for being in cars or for being ‘immodestly dressed,’ have occurred in these neighborhoods,” the consulate said.

The travel recommendation follows on the heels of statements made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who, speaking at the Saban Conference two months ago, expressed her shock (sic) that some busses in Yerushalayim allocated separate seating areas for women.

“It’s reminiscent of Rosa Parks,” she said, referring to the black American woman who refused to give up her seat to white passengers in the 1950s.

Referring to the decision of some IDF soldiers to leave an event where female soldiers were singing, she said it reminded her of the situation in Iran.

  1. Maybe the best way to deal with the Irani threat is to dress like them. Nothing else seems to be working. Not advocating the Taliban style, though.

  2. The obamanicks would much rather deal with a passive kadima administration (that is all based and created upon opportunity for power- and they don’t even mouth off to ideals) than with Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition. So, hills listened to livni and made her stupid statements. That simple….

  3. I am NOT pleased at the conduct of some very fringe elements in our community (to put it mildly), but this announcement exposes the State Dept. for the anti-Semitic hypocrites that they are.

Being people yelled at, spit on and worse for entering Arab villages in immodest attire has always been an accepted fact. Yet such an announcement has, to the best of my knowledge, never been posted on the State Dept.’s website regarding Arab villages.

  4. #5 Reality, you’re the only one with some brains on here. Clear anti-Semitic hypocrisy.
The chillul Hashem are from those who don’t see anything wrong with walking around in the streets of the holy city of Yerushalayim or in the Eretz Hakodesh in immodest attire. Shame on you! Thanks to those “extremist” that Yerushalayim doesn’t look like Manhattan and some areas of Tel Aviv.

  5. I`m not impressed. This is probably all due to that well connected individual from Silver Spring who now resides in Beit Shemesh & has taken up the Americans cause. He was interviewed by CNN & seems to want to teach the Yerushlami`s what tznius is.
