The White House is none too pleased with Big Papi and Samsung’s promotional selfie with Obama. White House press secretary Jay Carney called out the company and the Red Sox slugger today for inappropriate use of an image of the president.
“As a rule, the White House objects to attempts to use the president’s likeness for commercial purposes,” Carney said. “And we certainly object in this case.”
Although the Ortiz-Obama selfie seemed spontaneous at the moment, Ortiz, wwho has an endorsement deal with Samsung, coordinated with the company on the photo in advance of his White House visit.
Samsung tweeted the image to its millions of followers shortly after it was taken and praised the encounter as a prime example of “how to share images with fans.” Read more at USA Today.
