Yeshivishe Shechitah Launched

Thursday January 28, 2010 6:24 PM - 35 Comments

lamms-mehadrin“Lamm’s Mehadrin,” a yeshivishe shechitah that is supervised by the Chicago Rabbinical Council and the Orthodox Union, and approved by the KCL of Lakewood, has been launched.

“Lamm’s Mehadrin” is produced in Wellington, Kansas, home of AD Rosenblatt Meats, Har Nof, Heartland Kosher, and other brands. The shochtim and bodkim learn and have learned in Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood, Yeshivas Telshe-Chicago, Yeshivas Hanegev, Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and other prominent yeshivos.

“It is a great opportunity for the yeshiva world to have something of its own, something to which it feels a connection,” said Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, Kashrus Administrator of the Chicago Rabbinical Council and a talmid of Yeshivos Telshe-Chicago and Mir Yerushalayim.

“We look forward to inviting roshei chaburah to have hands-on shimush as they learn the sugyos of shechitah and treifos,” he said.

Attention will be paid to chumros and hanhagos of the yeshiva olam.

The label is named after Reb Psachya Lamm z”l, the great-grandfather of proprietor Yaakov Rosenblatt, himself a talmid of Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef of Edison, Yeshiva Gedolah of South Fallsburg and Bais Medrash Govoah in Lakewood.  Reb Psachya was the first glatt kosher butcher in America and had a respected butcher store in Williamsburg for many years.

“Many people remember the success he had in standing up to the unions, which were a major impediment to high standards of kashrus in the early days of shechitah in America,” Yaakov Rosenblatt says. “The program is named in tribute to him.”

The production is personally overseen by Rav Zvi Fishbane of Chicago. Rav Fishbane is a well-known talmid chochom with over thirty years of experience in the shechitah world. He is the author of sefer Hameilitz Beinosom on Targum Yonasan Ben Uziel.

In order for it to be a true Yeshivishe Shechita some of the Shochtim and Bodkim should not only be Yorei Shomayim and Talmidei Chachomim, but also CLEAN SHAVEN and go to the Mikva only Erev Yom Kippur!

Finally we as Bnei Torah can have a Shechita done by Bnei Torah Talmidei Chachomim. So what if they do not wear a Gartel when they shecht.

Every Shochet in the new Yeshivish Shechta will have to include on his resume that he went out with at least 20 girls when he was in the Parsha.

Rav Zvi Fishbane is an amazing Yid, A Talmud Chochom Nifla, an Ish Kosher Vtohor. Every Yid should have a chance to meet him and after just 2 minutes with him you will line up to get meat under his guidance. What a Zchus for Klal Yisroel to have someone like Reb Zvi to rely on.

I noticed there are no representatives from Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim. I assume this is because of their extreme slowness in doing anything, the animal would be a neveilah alst she’hiyah.

#23 What do you mean by “quality”? Most of the meat enjoyed by Americans is poison! Corn-fed beef is poison. It tastes good with all that fat marbled into the meat to make it US grade Prime or Choice, but it kills the human body. I just got some meat from Uruguay, totally lean. This is range fed (grass) beef. That’s what Hashem made ruminant animals to digest and turn into healthy meat for you and me. As a Shochet myself, I can assure you the range fed beef runs much more kosher and Glatt than corn fed beef. Range fed probably runs 90% glatt, corn fed American beef 30-40%, and that is with Rirrin (which I admit are not a problem in treifus, but shows the animals are not as healthy). (The high percentage of treifus in American corn fed beef, is also a function of keeping them penned up the last few months while they are being corn fed, besides the diet.)

Just a bit of history, Rav Pasacya Lamm was the first frum schocet that came from Perwar europe to America right before the war broke out & he was the offical SCHOCHET For Kahal Arugas Habosem ( there are those who remember J & J Milk )under the supervision of the Great Tzelimer Rav who was the son of the Arugas Habosem, also the Tzelimer Rav gave very few Hechsherim unlike today that everthing is in mass production, Kedem & Zupnick Oil used to have his Hechsher, It was the best & Most reliable Chicken or Meat that anyone can imagine, nothing today , no matter what chumrahs you have & no matter what name or organizaion you call your shechita comes close to those days, of Rav Pasachya, May they all rest in Peace, it was just simple Kosher without any fanfare or Competition to out do the other & yes it was real European Kosher.

I wish those who want to carry on his tradition or name, just to follow the Shulcahn Urach & nothing more, dont invite this Rov or that Rov or that organizaion or any other organization for this matter & there is no need to boast, any affiliation that is going to use or not to use your meats.

just simple follow the SHulchan Urach & you will & should have lots of Hatzlucha. if we only follow the Ramuh or the Bais Yoser we are doing very well & as all the past generations that followed those big Poskim, have done, without inviting the whole world & bragging that mine is better than the other,

Hatzlucha Rabbah.

FYI - the KCL has NEVER “approved” this meat - and they have never agreed to let their name be used in any approval process. The KCL “MAY or MAY NOT” allow the product to be sold in shops under their Hashgocho.

Much Hatzlocho to any product that helps the Kosher consumer.

I would call that “just a bit of historical revisionism”!
There were Frum Shoctim in America well before the turn of the century!

What’s the relationship to Rosenblatt Meats - is this a different company or a different production line at the same company?
