jonathan pollardThe National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) issued the following statement today regarding the news that Jonathan Pollard has been granted parole and will be released in November 2015. Jonathan Pollard was personally quoted today as having specifically thanked the National Council of Young Israel for its efforts towards his release.

“The National Council of Young Israel is extraordinarily grateful that the U.S. Parole Commission has finally decided to release Jonathan Pollard. After spending thirty years in prison for passing classified information to an ally of the United States, an offense that typically would result in a two- to four-year sentence, it is certainly time for Jonathan Pollard to be reunited with his family and to have the opportunity to enjoy the freedom that he should have been granted long ago.

“A model prisoner who publicly and wholeheartedly expressed remorse for his actions, Jonathan’s release has long been supported by the major decision makers who were intimately involved in his case, numerous prominent American leaders, the Israeli government, and countless people throughout the world. As an organization that has been deeply involved in the efforts to free Jonathan Pollard for several decades and has consistently advocated for his release, the National Council of Young Israel welcomes the news that he will be released and wishes Jonathan much success, happiness and good health as he re-enters society after a long and difficult thirty years in prison.”
