On Sunday, 7 Shevat 5783, January 29 2023, the Yeshiva Gedola & Mesivta of Carteret was abuzz as one of the two Roshei HaYeshiva, Harav Azriel Brown Shlit”a, made his 12th Siyum HaShas.
Although he highly despises Kavod/Honor, the Hanhala of the Yeshiva insisted on making it a “Maimod of Kavod HaTorah”, a respectable event honoring the Torah.
In addition to the students and rabbeim in the Yeshiva, many alumni came back to give their Rebbe honor, as well as family and number of other distinguished guests participated.
The Program began with Mincha at 3:15pm. The Yeshiva’s Executive Director, Rabbi Yaakov T. Biderman welcomed the attendees and introduced The Rosh HaYeshiva, Harav Azriel Brown.
As the Rosh Yeshiva walked up, the singer Moshe Katz broke out in song in honor of the man who usually keeps himself hidden behind his seforim with his pen in hand and shuns the spotlight. The Rosh Yeshiva then spoke and made The Siyum.
Lively music and dancing proceeded led by renowned singer Moshe Katz and musician Rabbi Eli Cohen.
The beautiful buffet of pastries, fruit, nuts, chocolate, dried fruit, candy, sushi, hot food, and drinks, was enjoyed by all.
The Rosh HaYeshiva Harav Yaakov Mayer Shlit”a spoke and introduced his Rebbe Harav Moshe Brown Shlit”a, Rav of Agudath Israel of West Lawrence, father of Rav Azriel.
Then guest speaker Harav Yaakov Bender Shlit”a, Rosh HaYeshiva of Darchei Torah, where Rav Azriel had learned in elementary school, spoke.
A beautiful hour-long kumzitz followed.
In middle, Moshe Katz shared a story about a siyum and then proceeded around the room asking each person to make a kabalah to work toward a siyum of their own.
The event was beautiful and inspiring.
