simchafelderThe new 18th Avenue Park, located on 18th Avenue and 56th street in Boro Park, has been named February’s Park of the Month by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. New York City Councilmember Simcha Felder allocated $3 million for the reconstruction of the park to provide recreational facilities for the community, improving the park and doubling the size of its playground.

“This new park is beautiful and this honor reflects its value to the neighborhood,” commented Felder.  “The renovation is one of the best things I’ve done as a Council Member and will be enjoyed by the community for years.”

The new 18th Avenue Playground features state-of-the-art facilities. Children are able to scale a play mountain, romp around a new playground with adventure equipment and ride swings. The park also sports top of the line ballfields, which were restored by the borough’s own maintenance and operations crews.

From its opening in April 15, 2008, the park  offers something for everyone with the installation of new benches, game tables, and numerous different plants and shrubs in newly designated garden areas, accentuated by brick pier steel fencing and brick walls that adorn the new design.

“Since the completion of our extensive renovations, the Park has been abuzz with all sorts of recreational activity, from softball games to chess matches,” reflected Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
