police st louisPolice arrested nine people in St. Louis on Wednesday after protests erupted in response to a fatal police shooting. While two police officers were attempting to serve a warrant, an 18-year-old black man pointed a gun at police, prompting one of the officers to shoot and kill him.

At the scene, police found crack cocaine and four guns.

The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Mansur Ball-Bey.

The shooting ignited protests downtown, which St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said police were forced to break up after demonstrators reportedly threw bricks, water bottles and other objects at authorities. Police fired smoke cannisters and used tear gas on crowds after fires broke out in the streets.

Dotson added police are receiving reports of businesses being looted in what he called “acts of violence directed at not only to police officers but the neighborhood.” Read more at St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
