According to The BBC, Apple has introduced a partial amendment to its iPhone software, addressing an issue where the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flag emoji was being suggested when users typed the word “Jerusalem.”

This occurrence had ignited controversy, as observers pointed out that the names of other cities did not trigger flag emojis. Apple had previously informed The BBC that the appearance of the flag when typing “Jerusalem” was unintentional, attributing the problem to unforeseen behavior in a feature known as predictive emoji.

The emergence of the PLO flag as a suggestion came to light after the rollout of iOS 17.4.1, the most recent publicly available version of Apple’s software for its mobile devices.

Reportedly, Apple’s proposed solution is currently confined to the “developer beta” iteration of iOS 17.5, which was released on Tuesday, as stated by The BBC. In this updated version, no emoji appears as a suggestion when “Jerusalem” is typed, aligning with the behavior observed with other city names. However, the timing of the broader release of this update remains uncertain.
