In a further crumbling of the cases against Binyomin Netanyahu, State Witness Dovid Sharan, the former director of the prime ministerial office and still a Bibi supporter, retracted a statement he made to the police that Netanyahu smoked 3–4 cigars a day, saying this was “illogical” and that he may have finished one cigar in three days.

Sharan admitted in his testimony that he was “pressured” to do favors for certain parties involved in Case 4000 (the Bezek-Walla case), but emphasized, “The fact that friends [of Netanyahu and the controller of Bezek] pressured me does not mean anything was done, but there was pressure.”

As reported last week, Sharan said at the opening of his testimony that he felt “under threat” following his grilling by police interrogators. He later added he had spent 11 days in a cell with bugs and roaches while testifying for the Submarine Case, and feared to repeat the experience if he was uncooperative.

“My feeling is that police were fishing [excessively for evidence against] Netanyahu in all the thousands of files [relating to his case]; I know this from the media,” Sharan said. “In Case 3000 [the Submarine Case] I was specifically told: ‘Bring a piece of information about Prime Minister Netanyahu or Minister [Yuval] Steinitz, and we will make it easy for you.’ It was clear to me that if I offered to be a state witness, everything would be fine, my life would be fine,” he said.

  1. Hamodia reported he spends 15000-20000 NIS a month which could be 50 to 100 cigars a month. I hope he is clever. They can scare.

He smokes Cohiba Sigla V’s. Cuban.

You can get a nice Davidoff for less and it is better.

  2. did you ever smoke a cigar? A cigar in 3 days? He would throw it out and take another. Anyway who cares? There are cigars that one smokes in 30 minutes and are more expensive than Churchill-style.

  3. Sharan… retracted a statement he made to the police that Netanyahu smoked 3–4 cigars a day, saying this was “illogical”….”
When asked why he told police that Netanyahu smoked 3–4 cigars a day, Sharan told reporters: “Because Netanyahu DID consume 3-4 cigars a day, however, they were Blooms chocoalte cigars, and he didn’t smoke them, he ate them.”
“What’s the difference between eating and smoking?” Sharan asked. “It’s the same thing.”
