Hours after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky brought members of Congress to their feet twice with an emotional speech asking for more help fending off the Russian invasion, President Biden belatedly announced an additional $800 million in military aid to the Kyiv government while warning it faced a “long and difficult battle,” the NY Post reports.
The American president’s remarks were initially scheduled for 11:45 a.m., a little more than two hours after Zelensky addressed members of the House and Senate via video link. Biden’s statement was eventually pushed back to 12:30 p.m. and he took the stage at the White House-adjacent Executive Office Building another 32 minutes later, at 1:02 p.m.
Biden made no mention in his statement of Zelensky’s request for a no-fly zone over Ukraine and declined to answer questions about the proposed transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets from Poland — which some Republican members of Congress had asked for after the Ukraine president’s remarks. NY Post

British and US military experts are saying that in 10 days or so Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine will collapse for lack of fuel and ammunition, and the Ukrainians seem determined to hold out. More and more people are saying that to give in to Russia will encourage it to set its sights on other parts of Europe which definitely don’t want to be targeted or conquered. All sides in the US realize that it’s in American interests to contain Russia, just disagree on to what extent the US should be directedly involved, but all agree on some extent of involvement. The Russian deliberate attacks on civilian targets, hospitals and residential areas, with no military value and intended only to demoralize the Ukrainians, seem like definite war crimes.
