Barnett’s tenure at Boeing spanned over thirty years until his retirement in 2017, during which he served as a quality control engineer. In a 2019 interview with the BBC, Barnett had spoken out against Boeing’s alleged compromise on safety standards in their haste to push the 787 Dreamliner jets off the assembly line.

In response to Barnett’s passing, Boeing issued a statement expressing condolences to his family and friends, acknowledging the sorrow brought about by the loss.
