Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Liberman has recommended Blue and White head Benny Gantz for prime minister in a meeting with Reuven Rivlin.

With Liberman’s support, Gantz has received the recommendations of 62 MKs from the Blue and White, Labor-Gesher-Meretz, Yisrael Beytenu, and Joint Arab List to form a coalition. He is now expected to receive the mandate to form a government from President Reuven Rivlin.

Earlier on Sunday, all 15 members of the Joint List endorsed the former IDF chief of staff for prime minister during a meeting with President Reuven Rivlin in Jerusalem, including the hard-line Balad party.

As it currently stands, 61 members of Israel’s parliament will likely endorse Gantz and give him the chance to form a governing coalition, edging out Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc of 58.

The lone holdout is Gesher party leader Orly Levy-Abekasis, who has publicly stated that she will not give her endorsement to either political leader.

Gantz tells the president he backs a national emergency government, “because we are in an emergency.”

He says “the most sensible thing is a government of the two largest parties…. they will have at least a safety net of one party, Yisrael Beytenu, with seven seats. They can save all the sordid business of coalition building.”

    • LOL. The UK Parliament fired Neville Chamberlain on May 10, 1940 — the very day that Hitler invaded the Netherlands, Belgium, and France — and replaced him with Winston Churchill. Everyone knew it was coming because a month earlier Hitler had invaded Denmark and Norway. Had the UK not replaced Chamberlain with Churchill, Hitler would likely have won the war!
