Britain, a longstanding ally of Israel, has made a significant declaration, stating its intention to halt the sale of weapons to Israel. This decision is contingent upon Israel granting access to Red Cross personnel to visit the detainees from the Nukhba force, who are held prisoner for their involvement in the October 7th massacre.

The ultimatum is delivered against the backdrop of Hamas’ persistent refusal to permit Red Cross visits to Israeli hostages. David Cameron, the British Foreign Minister, conveyed to Israel that failure to comply with this demand would lead Britain to advocate for a broader European embargo on arms sales.

British authorities, at the forefront of the campaign urging Israel to permit visits to the detained terrorists, argue that Israel’s actions constitute a breach of international law. They emphasize the necessity for Israel to allow Red Cross access to the prisoners.

Israel maintains its stance, asserting its authority to prohibit visits for reasons of security. Political figures in Israel have expressed discontent with the British stance. Foreign Minister Israel Katz conveyed to his British counterparts that measures hindering Israel’s actions inadvertently assist Hamas, granting it legitimacy to escalate its demands in prisoner exchange negotiations.

Additionally, Canada and Italy have joined the fray, announcing their decisions to cease weapon sales to Israel during the conflict. These determinations are primarily symbolic, given that Israel has not procured weapons from Canada for several years and has only engaged in minimal transactions with Italy.
