Drivers who don’t use E-ZPass can stop fumbling with bills and coins starting July 10, when the George Washington Bridge moves to all electronic cashless toll collections, NJ.com reports.

But that technological marvel comes at a cost, specifically the end of a commuter carpool discount, which was criticized by U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer, (D-5th Dist.) for costing drivers who use the discount now an additional $2,375 a year in new tolls, or $9.50 a day, once cashless tolling goes live.

Once toll collectors are eliminated, there will be no way to determine how many people are in a car, Port Authority officials said.

  1. It’s a gotcha every time. They save money on toll collecters should be cheaper but already charged more. Thanks demo c Rats

  2. To ease the burden and pain of high gas prices, why don’t the NY & NJ officials eliminate the tolls and fees? You pay enough taxes as it is. Hey sheeple! Rise up and demand that your elected officials do their jobs, they should represent YOU! Have them eliminate tolls and fees. Almost all the rest of the Country has NO tolls or fees. Look around. You’re all a bunch of suckers and chumps to the elected democRATs who run your state and in reality run YOU.
