It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Chazzan Moshe Stern z”l. He was 87.

Chazzan Stern was regarded as one of the greatest chazzanim of our time and constantly toured the Jewish world to give concerts of Jewish liturgical music. He recorded many popular songs, often his own compositions.

Born in Budapest, Chazzan Stern immigrated to Israel in 1950. In 1955, he was appointed cḥazzan at the main shul in Recḥovot, and in 1958 at the Heichal Shlomo Shul in Yerushalayim.

From 1963 to 1968, he was chief chazzan of the Great Synagogue in Johannesburg, and from 1968 to 1977 of Beth-El Synagogue in Boro Park, New York.

In 1977, he returned to Eretz Yisroel and settled in Har Nof.

Chazzan Stern is survived by his wife Tziporah and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The levayah was held today at the Shamgar funeral home Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichro boruch.
