On Tuesday, Palestinian Authority President and terror supporter Mahmoud Abbas expressed a firm commitment that the PA will reclaim governance over Gaza, notwithstanding Israeli objections. The Holocaust denier asserted that the period post-war serves as a “test” for the US to demonstrate its commitment to supporting a “revitalized” form of PA rule over the Strip.

Abbas emphasized, “We don’t need to return to Gaza. We are already there,” underscoring the PA’s continued financial support for local “employees” in Gaza, disbursing $140 million monthly for salaries, electricity, and medical expenses.

Criticizing the US for unwavering support for Israel post the October 7 Hamas attacks, Abbas suggested that if the US refrained from using its veto in the UN Security Council, the conflict would cease. Insisting on the establishment of a Palestinian state comprising the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem post-conflict, Abbas warned of potential escalation in the West Bank. He labeled the ongoing war in Gaza worse than the nakba, citing extensive destruction and an unverified Hamas claim of over 20,000 Gazans killed.

Abbas refrained from condemning Hamas for the October 7 onslaught against Israel, but criticized them for not following up on reconciliation talks held in late July. He expressed hope for a settlement with factions present and absent at the talks, reiterating the PA’s key positions of Palestinian unity, international legitimacy, peaceful resistance, and the goal of an independent state. Abbas highlighted diplomatic achievements, including UN observer status in 2012 and leading the “G77 plus China” group in 2019.

While acknowledging initial global support for Israel, Abbas claimed to have influenced leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron, shifting their stance. He lauded Russia as a staunch partner ready to provide political, financial, and humanitarian aid. Abbas contended that global popular support has shifted to the Palestinians, citing a London rally with an exaggerated claim of “a million protesters in support of Gaza.”

Reflecting on negotiations with Israel, Abbas praised the Oslo agreements but blamed Prime Minister Netanyahu for snuffing out the “ray of hope.” He affirmed the PA’s commitment to a peaceful two-state solution, rejecting displacement to Egypt or Jordan. Abbas criticized Israel for withholding millions in custom duties and tax revenue, impacting the Palestinian economy.
