Sephardi Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchok Yosef came out against the decision earlier today by police to ban the annual mass yahrtzeit gathering at the kever of the Baba Sali, Rav Yisroel Abuchatzeira.

Rav Yosef called the decision “unfortunate,” and called on the government to reverse it to allow observers to gather “in an orderly manner,” Times of Israel reports.

The annual event next week will not take place this year due to security concerns, police said, in the wake of the deadly events in Meron on Lag Ba’omer. Many are vowing to show up in the thousands anyway.

  1. The yahrzeit was not cancelled. It comes automatically.

Hillula celebration of Sepharadim/Hasidim is not identical with the ancient minhag of yahrzeit.

  2. THE POLICE AREN’T CANCELLING MASS GATHERINGS OF ARABS EVERY FRIDAY ON HAR HABAYIT, AND THE NEW YEAR PARTIES BY HEBREW SPEAKING GOYIM.

  3. “WHY ARE THEY MEDDLING IN OUR GROUPS?
Even in your private plane they’re so “concerned” with your welfare that they have a maximum number who can join. Can you understand why it’s their business if we make big events with hundreds attending? If my family and friends don’t care about so-called covid, omicron or other new names, why should the police meddle? If someone with a contagious sickness is standing near me and talking to me, will they come separate us? What’s their business?”
