A Louisiana school headmaster who was arrested last week for taping children’s mouths shut has issued a lengthy statement defending his actions.

Reverend John Raymond, who is also a local Republican politician, claims he taped five disruptive seventh graders’ mouths after they left their teacher “distraught and in tears.” He implied that he was protecting teachers from being bullied. He claimed he told the boys he loved them and gave them a choice, “[E]ither go downstairs and call your parents… or you can get tape on your mouth and learn how to be quiet during class.”

He claims the boys opted for the latter so he “carefully” put tape on the mouths “making sure that it did not touch their nose or interfere with their breathing.” He claimed he “gently” peeled the tape off after 10 minutes when the principal at Lakeside Christian Academy expressed concern. Three of the boys’ parents are pressing charges but a defiant Raymond insisted that “building character in teenage boys can be difficult.” Read more it at USA Today.

  1. If one nutty headmaster tapes the mouth – not the nose – it makes headlines all over. Is taping the mouth shut worse than wearing masks covering the nose all day? Why aren’t all the governments and stewardess who insisted on masks and the cause of so many hospitalized not behind bars?

    • When asked his opinion about the students’ mouths being shut with tape, one individual – who opposes vaccinations and the wearing of masks – said, “We don’t know whether vaccines and masks work, but when it comes to keeping students’ mouths shut and preventing them from talking, we know that tape absolutely works!”
A spokesman from the Scotch Tape company agreed with that assessment. “Scotch tape works,” the spokesman said. “The CEOs of the Scotch company tape my mouth constantly, and when they do, I’m telling you honestly, I can’t move my lips northward or southward.”
“But nevertheless,” the spokesman added, “while any of our various line of tapes will get the job done, when it comes to taping students’ mouth shut, I would recommend Scotch Super-Hold Tape. It’s the students worst nightmare.”

  2. To The truth: Perhaps a child had a cold and couldn’t breathe well through his nose. How can you compare taping mouths to masks? Masks might be uncomfortable, but you can still talk. Having tape on your mouth is like being in a straightjacket. A teacher of my son regularly put tape on the boys’ mouths and filled their mouth with tissue. Unfortunately, the principal knew about it and covered it up. I anonymously called up youth protection, where it was confirmed, but the teacher stayed on and they even honored him when he left teaching a few years later at their annual dinner!
