Cuomo: Supreme Court Ruling Doesn’t Have ‘Any Practical Effect’

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is downplaying the significance of a Supreme Court decision blocking him enforcing stringent attendance limits on religious institutions in Covid hot spots.

“That Supreme Court ruling on the religious gatherings is more illustrative of the Supreme Court than anything else,” Cuomo said on a Thanksgiving morning briefing call. “It’s irrelevant from any practical impact.”

The Wednesday night decision came after a challenge by Catholic and Jewish organizations in Brooklyn neighborhoods that the governor placed in a “red zone” earlier this fall. Under that classification, congregations of more than 10 people at a time were prohibited.

A 5-4 majority found that the limitation resulted in “disparate treatment,” as religious institutions were subjected to more stringent regulations than places like liquor stores and bike shops. Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the minority.

  1. The decision should have a practical effect on the tzibur charedi. It should serve as a stark reminder that we are in golus and any relationship with the governer is dependent on the true governer, borei olam!

  2. Little baby Nimrod. He didn’t get his way. He was so busy lecturing us about the “law”. Law this and law that. “We have to follow the law”. Now that it rules against him, little Nimrod throws a temper tantrum.

  3. Yes, it does. I’m sorry Governor, that you reject the SCOTUS slapdown. You over-reached with your perceived power, and the top court of the land told you so. Your statements about being concerned for the Constitution were lies, and I doubt you ever believed them either. You are correct that the restrictions were already lifted a few days earlier. But your focus was completely wrong, and we now are more clear about your sentiments.

Had you really cared for the health of the community, you would have done as NYPD did in non-Jewish neighborhoods of NYC – distributed masks. But you did not consider that, nor did the Mayor. You were doubled up on inspecting, giving tickets, summonses, and violations to empty buildings, and basically terrorizing and threatening our community. Shame on you Governor Cuomo. When you will abandon your ego trip and work with the community, the picture will look very different. But the game you have been playing is anti-Jewish. I am glad the SCOTUS smacked you down. I wish you a speedy retirement.

    • I’d add by saying , the smart thing to to is like governor murphey , a real mentsch. Engage the community . Understand their needs and work with them to make it happen . This is not communist Russia. If you do like coumo did , nobody will adhere to the law and people will commit less safer violations. It backfires. From a health perspective it didn’t serve its purpose in any way . On the other hand with Murphy , many wore masks , made outdoor minyan and hakofos, 5 minute hakafos , increased testing so you buck it before it spreads , increased awareness etc ..
From a public health perspective, it’s obvious which style prevails

  4. Cuomo is right because it’s all for your own safety so that innocent people should not get hurt from Deep State rioters when President Trump will officially be re-elected POTUS. It has nothing to do with Covid and nothing to do with anti-Semitism and the Supreme Court will currently not be able to do anything about it.

  5. Hey Son of Mario,

You are a lying no good איטאַליענישער פערד! This DOES make a difference because you or your commie buddy in NYC want to shut down the area again. You keep giving us those phoney baloney numbers, the ones that are supposed to be vewy vewy vewy scawey.

Besides, now no other Leftist thug Governor in will attempt to pull off the same shenanigans as you.
