Minnesota’s Court of Appeals has upheld Derek Chauvin’s conviction for the 2020 murder of George Floyd, ensuring the ex-Minneapolis cop will serve out his 22½-year sentence. Chauvin’s lawyers had made several arguments for overturning the conviction, claiming the mass protests and riots in Minneapolis in the aftermath of Floyd’s death had prevented Chauvin from receiving a fair trial.

The presiding judge evidently sided with a state prosecutor, who argued that the proceedings constituted “one of the most transparent and thorough trials in our nation’s history” and stated that “the evidence of Chauvin’s guilt was captured on video for the world to see.” Chauvin was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter after a video of him fatally pinning Floyd’s neck to the ground for more than nine minutes led to nationwide protests against police brutality. 1. The poor guy! George Floyd was a terrible guy and this was a police officer. True Floyd was killed but can’t any slants can be applied for leniency? Dishonorable discharge? If there hadn’t been riots, this officer would not have been dealt such a harsh blow. 1) He was arrested many times before 2) He was resisting arrest and being incompliant which is why he was so brutally handled. Poor guy.

  2. What did he even bother appealing for?

I don’t know whether he is guilty or not but do know that there is no way he could have had a fair trial. Or retrial.

While this may not be fair we should be relieved that at least there won’t be any more George Floyd riots like there would be were his conviction overturned.

    • I watched the same videos as you. He is not cruel, and he is NOT guilty. Floyd was complaining that he couldn’t breathe before the cops touched him. He was suffering a Fentanyl overdose, the result of which is asphyxiation. At very very least there is incredible doubt whether Chauvin was responsible.
The whole thing is clearly a political and social rigged reaction.

    • The video is only going to show what happened. Not the circumstances behind it which determine whether he was guilty of a crime or doing police work.

  3. Timothy Japhet, attorney in Texas, said that George Floyd died in 2016 in Corpus Christi hospital. This entire narrative and arrest was pre-planned and staged.

Interesting, they can’t even use the same Chauvin actor as the original actor.
