It would be an “elaborate form of suicide” for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to enter the race for the 2024 GOP nomination, Dick Morris, author of “The Return: Trump’s Big 2024 Comeback,” said, Newsmax reports.

“It’s a little bit like the decision of Japanese kamikaze pilots to keep fighting in 1945 and smacking their planes into ships and dying,” Morris said on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” adding that if it were the 2028 election, the Florida Republican would have an “absolute clear field” and could win the nomination.

“But if he runs in 2024, he’ll lose,” said Morris. “He’ll lose badly. And in the process, he’ll incur the wrath of three-quarters of the Republican Party; so I hope he doesn’t do that.”

  1. In my high school, Morris was the campaign manager for Jerrold Nadler who was running to be head of the student government. In recent years, he’s become less liberal, but his crystal ball has clouded up.

  2. This is probably correct. For De Santis to challenge Trump will take him from being the rising star in the Republican to a guy who got burnt by not taking the old advice “Never fight with a pig because you’ll both get dirty but the pig enjoys it.”

Even if De Santis does win the primary Trump will do whatever he can to make sure he loses the general election.

For someone like Nikki Halley who will otherwise be forgotten in six years and anyway has no job to lose it makes sense to challenge Trump. For De Santis the risks aren’t worth it

  3. He’s right. As of now, the only way Trump looses is if they pull some shmei drey like they did in 2000.
