Do Israelis Gamble Online?

Gambling online is a pastime that millions of people enjoy daily. Regardless of the country, they’re living in; if people can connect to the internet, be it via a desktop computer or mobile device, and play at online casinos and the like, they’re going to do so because it’s fun. And you could suggest that this applies to those who call Israel home.

Like many countries around the world, if you’re going by the law of the land, connecting to an online casino to play games such as video slots and table games is prohibited, and this even applies to reputable online brands from the gaming world too. It’s not a case of the government approving some of the respected gambling operators by giving them licenses and then discarding the rest. There’s a blanket ban where online gaming, for example, is concerned.

But, as it is in multiple other countries around the world where gambling online isn’t approved by the government and the powers that be, it doesn’t mean that Israelis and those living in Israel don’t participate in the activity because they do. And one of the primary motivations for this is because there’s a genuine passion for gambling, be it playing at online casinos or something else.

You could suggest that where there’s a will, there’s a way, and it’s certainly what going on here. So, while there aren’t any official online gambling sites that operate within Israel and make their services available to residents, it doesn’t mean there aren’t platforms that are running elsewhere that welcome people from Israel to register and use their service whenever they feel the desire to. And while it’s not strictly an approved practice by the government, punters are yet to be prosecuted for taking part, and you’d think it’s unlikely to happen because of the number of people doing so.

An interesting angle that has come about in recent times involves cryptocurrency. The Israeli banking system actually adopted crypto, and at present, it continues to be scrutinised by the government in the country. But as everyone will know, alongside cryptocurrencies, there are crypto casinos, and these, too, present the ideal opportunity for residents of Israel to enjoy gambling action on demand.

What crypto casinos do is allow users to remain anonymous, which means that they can log on and play from anywhere in the world without their identity, location or any other details being known. So, it makes sense to do so if you live in Israel, where gambling online is prohibited and frowned upon, especially if punters feel there is a risk of prosecution.

But, as always, what’s worth noting is that while Israelis do gamble online, they’re not supposed to. And, by participating via the use of platforms based outside of Israel, there is always the risk, primarily with crypto casinos that aren’t usually regulated or licensed, that problems surrounding security and fairness could come to the fore.
