Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith intends to plead guilty of making a false statement in a case linked with a Department of Justice review of the 2016 probe into alleged links between Russia and the Trump campaign, US media reported Friday.
According to the Associated Press, the Clinesmith case is the first criminal prosecution arising from a review of the probe conducted by Assistant United States Attorney John Durham.
Michael Horowitz, the Department of Justice Inspector General, referred Clinesmith for possible prosecution after completing his own review of the contentious investigation.
Clinesmith is being accused of altering an email on Trump campaign aide Carter Page to say he was not affiliated with any government agency.
