On Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration approved Boeing’s request to upgrade the problematic batteries on the company’s 787 Dreamliners. The batteries will be put in fire-resistant box and vent smoke from overheating to outside the aircraft.

“We won’t allow the plane to return to service unless we’re satisfied that the new design ensures the safety of the aircraft and its passengers,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said. Read more at The Financial Times.
