Five Rescued in Dead Sea Area, Sixth Dead from Dehydration

Israel forces this morning rescued five people near the Dead Sea; a sixth individual was declared dead, according to police due to dehydration.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the incident took place in an area called “The Secret Creek,” the location of several known smuggling routes from Jordan.

Police received a report in the early morning that a number of people had entered ​a closed and mined military area. Police and military rescue forces immediately launched a search, quickly locating and evacuating five individuals.

Two of the rescued individuals are Israeli citizens, while the remaining three are foreign nationals, according to police.

In a second sweep, a police rescue unit found a sixth individual, also a foreign national, who medics pronounced dead on the scene.

The foreign nationals’ identities were not revealed.

Searches continued in the area on Sunday morning.

Southern District Police commander Amir Cohen has ordered the opening of an investigation into the incident. JNS
