Hundreds of people swarmed Florida’s beaches Saturday, just one day after Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced they would be allowed to open at local leaders’ discretion.
Images of people swarming beaches in the Jacksonville area went viral on Twitter Saturday, prompting backlash from users on the platform using the hashtag “#FloridaMorons.”
Florida was one of the last states to implement a stay-at-home order. As of Saturday, the Florida Department of Health has reported more than 25,000 coronavirus cases and 740 deaths.

Actual morons are people who think that this virus will just magically go away when sufficient time passes. What’s going to happen when they lift the stay home order – the infection will start growing exponentially again. For this “time healing plan” to work, every single person in the entire world would have to be locked down for 6 weeks simultaneously, without any exceptions for any “essential” workers and without any exception for medical personnel and government workers, and basically starve or die from lack of water and electricity, all this being completely voluntarily and not being forced in any way since the police would be locked away too. Since vaccine is at least a year away, and even then is not guaranteed to work for any new mutations, the only realistic plan is a “herd immunity”, i.e. about 70% of the population who won’t transmit the virus because of acquired immunity, for which they’ll need to get infected and then recover. Basically, all people above the age of 60, all people with high blood sugar, all people with compromised immune system etc, should go into quarantine for a couple of months in order to save their lives, while all the young and healthy people would be running the economy and providing food and services for the people in quarantine; then all the young people would develop the antibodies, and the virus would become much less contagious when the immunocompromised people would get out in a couple of months – this plan would result in minimal loss of life and no major damage to the economy. If anything, we should thank these beach goers who infect themselves so that we won’t have to.
