Former Mossad director Yossi Cohen, who previously insisted on the release of all hostages as a condition for a deal, shifted his stance this evening, advocating for the approval of the proposal despite deeming it “bad.”

Presenting a pragmatic perspective, Cohen emphasized the necessity of implementing the proposed deal, stating, “We put forward a very practical proposal for judgment. I know that both the Egyptians and the Qataris are familiar with the details, and I consider it good. This deal is good for the present time and needs to be carried out. I am resolute in my statements this evening that the deal must be executed, and better sooner than later.”

In response to journalist Keren Marciano’s inquiry regarding his previous stance, Cohen clarified, “I spoke of aspirations, and the aspiration is to release everyone. We need to bring them home quickly. We will take what we can now. There are dozens of hostages alive, and whoever can be brought home must be.”

Regarding Minister Smotrich’s criticism of the Egyptian proposal, labeling it as “a dangerous surrender and a terrible victory for Hamas,” Cohen expressed concern, highlighting the plight of the hostages enduring captivity under Hamas. He urged for the deal to proceed if Hamas agrees, emphasizing the imperative of action in such circumstances.

Cohen issued a solemn appeal to all members of the Cabinet, drawing a parallel from the Haggadah, stating, “Every person must see themselves as if they had left Egypt in every generation. Every minister must see themselves as if a family member is in Hamas captivity.”

Expressing dissatisfaction with the progress in the conflict, Cohen voiced his bewilderment at the abrupt halt in momentum after the initial months of intense fighting. He underscored the expectation for both political and military leaders to persist in efforts to weaken Hamas’ control in the Strip.

Questioning the rationale behind the stagnation, Cohen articulated his anticipation for continued IDF preparation and planning, including potential measures to invade Rafah and secure the release of remaining hostages while aiming to dismantle Hamas’ rule in the Strip.

  1. I’m just a simple plain Joe the Plumber and I don’t comprehend why Hamas is empowered to set the parameters! They initiated and attacked. They captured. They continue to shoot rockets. They’re responsible all the destruction of Gaza, it’s infrastructure and its population. They’re begging for a ceasefire – certainly to re-arm and they are now empowered to set the parameters for the hostage release. Why not every single one? Why must we compromise on a single one! But then again: what do I know; I’m a plain stupid Joe the Plumber!

    • It’s not Hamas, it’s the Mossad (CIA) who keep funneling money to Hamas via Qatar.
