Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made history in the midterm elections by becoming the youngest woman elected to the US House of Representatives. She may also be the poorest.
This weekend, Ocasio-Cortez revealed to The New York Times that she won’t be able to relocate her life to her future home of Washington DC until her congressional salary kicks in, as only then will she be able to pay rent in the capital.
Fox News was quick to took aim at Ocasio-Cortez during a segment captioned with: “Self-proclaimed socialist says she can’t afford DC rent.”
Ocasio-Cortez snapped back at Fox News, with this Twitter rant:
1. @FoxNews, why can’t any of your anchors say my name correctly? It’s been 5 months.
2. It is bizarre to see 1%-salaried anchors laugh at the US housing crisis.
3. Never purchased pricey clothes + always told my story. But repeating lies until they are believed is your thing.
There is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed.
Mocking lower incomes is exactly how those who benefit from + promote wealth inequality the most keep everyday people silent about 1 of the worst threats to American society: that the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer.
Fox News has since invited the young Congresswoman to join them on their station to discuss the matter.

Why doesn’t she set up a GoFundMe account, where other socialists could contribute?
What wealth inequality is she talking about? She has an iPhone, a designer watch and she drinks overpriced Starbucks coffee. Perhaps if she actually had a real job, with a real salary, she’d be able to afford an apartment.
And who says she has to live in DC? Why can’t she live in Silver Spring, Bethesda, Rockville, College Park or Bowie, MD where housing is more affordable?
Well, i have to give it to her, that is exactly what she wanted. It played perfectly into her hands and campaign description/playbook.
On the same note, the only thing she left out was: “the rich are getting richer etc”and The dumb are getting dumber.
