Oops.

The New York City Council apologized after it released a “Happy Yom Kippur” social media post that prominently featured…a Chanukah menorah.

The Council quickly removed and apologized for the post. The Council replaced the removed post with one that had a graphic with a blue background and the greeting of “G’mar Chatima Tova.”

“We acknowledge the error of our previous post on #YomKippur and thank all those who brought it to our attention,” the Council said. “We sincerely hope all New Yorkers observing this Day of Atonement have an easy and meaningful fast.”

New Yorkers had their fun with the Council’s gaffe. “OYYYY @NYCCouncil,” wrote journalist Mr. Jacob Kornbluh. “👇 (Yom Kippur is not Hanukkah 🕎 and the Day of Atonement is not necessarily “happy”).”

  1. The only error here is the City Council itself. Instead of defunding police, let’s get rid of the archaic city council and mayor. Replace them with a 21-member parliamentary government replaceable every 4 years.

  2. Actually it’s a kiddush Hashem because a Menorah and a Shofar have the same Jewish connotation. It’s not as if the City council is Jewish and know what is used when.

  3. its a sign of the times with this new socialist jew hating city council. they just go thru the motions. imagine if they would have made such a gaffe on a muslim holiday,

  4. No need to apologise – the menorah is a perfect symbol of anything relating to Judaism. And YK is indeed the happiest day of the year.
