In the wake of a political debate about yeshiva education in New York, Gov Kathy Hochul is touting the action she has taken to strengthen our yeshivas and increased funds for education programs.

While the governor does not have authority over the New York State Education Department — the state commissioner is selected by the trustees who are appointed by the legislature — Hochul has said that she is committed to investing in public and private schools, including our yeshivas, to make sure that every school has the resources to provide proper education and that every student has the opportunity to be successful.

In her first-ever budget, negotiated with the Democratic-controlled legislature and passed in April, Hochul increased funding for security grants and for education programs that have immediately benefited the community. The state budget includes over $326 million in spending for yeshivas and other nonpublic schools — a 20% increase compared to the 2021 budget — and an additional 45% increase for the nonpublic teacher STEM program that started in 2017.

In a recent speech in Crown Heights, Hochul said she has visited many yeshivas across the state and praised the education taught in our schools. “I will stand by the community and the yeshivas,” she pledged.

In the June 28 primaries, Hochul received unanimous support from a coalition of groups across the state, and garnered a majority of the vote in all Orthodox neighborhoods. “In these critical and challenging times, it is important to have sympathetic representation in the halls of government so that we can continue with our religious practices without interference, have our streets and neighborhoods safe and protected, and see our needs addressed in a respectful manner,” a statement signed by Borough Park leaders and administrators read.

Now running against Lee Zeldin, the Republican Party’s nominee for governor, Hochul is aiming to receive the same level of support.

Hochul has consistently led in all public opinion polls. A recent Emerson College-Pix11 poll, which accurately predicted the competitive congressional primaries last month, showed Hochul with a commanding 15-point lead over Zeldin.

  1. She shouldn’t get anyone’s vote. When will this oilam learn that they should not support a sonei yisroel. Stop lecking already. I am sick of this. Why couldn’t she at least open her mouth to help with the education issue. Instead she was MIA. Enough of this.

  2. WAKE UP YIDDEN BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!

The current askonim are bought and paid for. We desperately need new ones that represent our Torah interests.

  3. “…touting the action she has taken to strengthen our yeshivas and increased funds for education”

Who paid for this ad? We don’t need your increased funding. Keep your money. Leave us alone and stop trying to buy votes. You just lost them all. BH for that at least.

  4. Brought to you by the Hochul campaign……
If the good yidden of NY vote for her, then they truly deserve her.
It will all come back to haunt them after the election.
ALL DEMOCRATS MUST BE VOTED OUT SIMPLY BASED ON AFFILIATION.
They are all evil – plain and simple. May Hashem destroy all their plans one by one.

  5. 15 point lead ? This is a push poll meant to discourage Zeldin voters. Run to the polls with family & friends as if your lives depend on it because it does.

  6. So matzav is willing to sell themselves out to run a political ad from Hochul’s campaign (or worse, some paid shills from within).

For a few benjamins, you guys are willing to throw cold water on the public outcry against Hochul (not that this will convince anyone, but its your callousness that’s infuriating).

Also, it is illegal to withhold info pertaining to who paid for this ad. If its the Hochul campaign, you need to write that.

  7. a clear talking point from her campaign. She IS 100% behind this effort. VOTE ZELDIN. Any so called askan being near this woman shows where their interests $$$$$ lie.

  8. Sadly too many will vote for her. She accomplished near nothing – Hillary might call her A Nothing Burger! Yet she is nearly confirmed as the governor of NY come November 6th
She is a Democrat; end of story.

  9. Right about at the beginning of the campaign — it was reported here on Matzav — Mrs. Hochul made a much publicized appearance at one of the very largest and most prominent vendors of Torah books and other Judaica in New York. We can well assume that in her remarks there, she expressed strong admiration for the store’s owner and his type of business. In the writeup here, she related how she has visited a number of Yeshivos and expressed admiration of their educational program.

The huge problem with all this is that her position as one of the leading sharpest spearheads of the evil agendas of the radical left — of the very worst extreme degrees of Toeiva and the promotion of outright murder of infants — MEANS THAT SHE IS THE EXACT OPPPOSITE OF OUR SACRED TORAH BOOKS that our honored Judaica stores sell and the students of our Yeshivos reverently learn.
