Nikki Haley, the Republican candidate for the presidency, has requested Secret Service protection due to a surge in threats amid her primary challenge against front-runner Donald Trump, she informed The Wall Street Journal.
Speaking to the Journal after an event in her home state of South Carolina, Haley acknowledged facing numerous challenges but remained resolute in her commitment to continue her campaign activities.
While Haley’s campaign did not provide specific details regarding the nature or frequency of the threats, recent incidents have underscored the heightened tensions surrounding her candidacy. One such incident involved a woman protesting Israel’s military actions against Hamas terrorists who rushed the stage during a Haley event in South Carolina.
Additionally, Haley’s residence has been targeted in at least two instances of swatting, occurring on December 30 and New Year’s Day, respectively. The term “swatting” refers to the act of making false reports to law enforcement in order to prompt a potentially dangerous response from police officers. During the December 30 incident, Haley’s elderly parents and their caretaker were present at the residence, heightening concerns about the safety of her family.
