Mohammad Nazzal, a member of Hamas’s political wing, asserted, “The obstacles Israel has created are responsible for the delays in arranging a prisoner exchange agreement and ceasefire.”

Nazzal conveyed to Al-Araby al-Jadeed that “the issue of hostages applies pressure on Israel, ultimately compelling it to accede to Hamas’s demands.”

He further commented, “Israel remains disinterested in committing to a comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawing the IDF, or lifting the siege,” indicating that Israel will maintain supervision over the passage of individuals and goods into Gaza.

Nazzal pointed out that negotiations have hit a standstill because Israel insists on the release of all hostages without reciprocating by releasing all security prisoners. Hamas refuses to entertain any agreement that doesn’t encompass a ceasefire and IDF withdrawal from Gaza.

Emphasizing Hamas’s staunch stance, Nazzal underscored the paramount importance of halting Israeli “aggression” and withdrawing the IDF before engaging in discussions about a new arrangement for the Palestinian people, including the formation of a new government.

He refuted reports suggesting Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s remorse over the October 7th incident and any claims of Hamas seeking his replacement.
