It is with great sadness that we report the passing on Motzoei Shabbos of Harav Yehudah Shapiro zt”l, rosh kollel of Kollel Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak. Rav Shapiro, who was one of the talmidim muvhakim of the Chazon Ish, was 85. He was niftar on Motzoei Shabbos after being ill for a number of years.
Rav Shapiro resided on Rechov Rashbam, near Maran Harav Chaim Kanievsky, with whom he had a very close relationship. Rav Shapiro was a mentor and guide to thousands of people from all streams of Yiddishkeit. One of the prominent personages who were guided by Rav Shapiro is Rav Amnon Yitzchak, the renowned mekarev who has brought literally tens of thousands of Yidden closer to the Ribono Shel Olam. A gaon is Torah and middos, Rav Shapiro was from the senior talmidei chachomim and manhigim of Bnei Brak.
The past few years, Rav Shapiro had been bedridden due to his deteriorating health.
Rav Shapiro is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Bluma Shapiro, six children and tens of grandchildren who are following his path of Torah and mitzvos. One of Rav Shapiro’s sons is rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Shaarei Torah of Bnei Brak.
The levaya was held yesterday morning, the second day of Chol Hamoed, at Kollel Chazon Ish, and he was buried at the Bnei Brak Bais Hachaim.
