Floridians could experience record low temperatures as two cold fronts move south over the weekend as the Northeast faces a powerful nor’easter, Tallahassee Democrat reports.

The strongest cold front is forecast to move down the state Friday night, moving off Florida’s southeast coast early on Shabbos, according to the National Weather Service.

Following the front, much colder air driven by gusty northwest winds will push into South Florida and usher in the coldest temperatures of the season.

Widespread frost and freezing conditions will be possible Friday, Shabbos and Sunday nights in Florida, with the coldest temperatures expected to arrive on Motzoei Shabbos

Temperatures could drop into the 20s in North Florida. Southwest Florida could see temperatures around 32 degrees, according to the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network.

Freezing temperatures could set new records for the state, AccuWeather forecasters warned. The daily record low for Jan. 30 in Orlando is 31 degrees, set in 1966. Low temperatures Sunday morning could beat that record, with areas around the city seeing the thermometer drop into the upper 20s, said AccuWeather. Miami could see temperatures drop into the 30s, threatening the record for Jan. 30 of 39 degrees, also set on Jan. 30, 1966.

Despite plenty of sunshine expected during the day Sunday, high temperatures will struggle. Orlando is forecast to be stuck in the mid-50s for a high temperature Sunday, while Miami may barely reach 60 degrees, which is around 15 degrees below normal for each city, said AccuWeather.

Another cold night is expected Sunday night and Monday morning, and although it may not be as cold as Sunday morning, freezing temperatures and frost may still be a possibility. Read more: Tallahassee Democrat
