Readers’ hearts and minds were captured this week by the devastating story of a young frum father who is in serious danger.

According to a letter from Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein, the young man and his children are in a “life or death” situation, because of a mitzvah that the father did. The rest of the details are protected for the family’s privacy and safety.

  2. I’m maskim to the above poster. Despite these letters of recommendation, I feel I cannot in good conscience give money to a cause I know absolutely nothing about.
What kind of mitzvah lands a person a DEATH sentence? Crimes that are punishable by death are classified as crimes against humanity. There are very few mitzvos, if any, that fall into that category, and if any do, any competent rabbi would likely say not to do it because of dina d’malchusa dina. (Killing a מסית ומדיח, etc.)
Also, in the Hebrew letter it says nothing about DEATH, it says that he faces serious debt. Saying that someone is about to receive a DEATH sentence when he is instead facing debt, even to the tune of millions of dollars, is misleading and dishonest. Getting people to donate money to such a cause using such terminology is nothing short of stealing.
